Why did I get a new card?
Generations Bank strives to provide our customers with the best products and services. Contactless-enabled cards are becoming the standard for debit cards in the US. So, we have added the contactless payment (commonly known as tap to pay) feature to all debit cards to provide a faster, easier, and more secure payment experience.
What is a contactless card?
Contactless cards utilize a new payment method similar to that utilized by mobile wallets. The transaction is completed by holding or tapping the card on a contactless enabled card reader. This technology is commonly referred to as “tap to pay.”
How does tap to pay work?
Tap to pay works very similarly to payment with a mobile wallet. The transaction is completed by holding or tapping the card on a contactless enabled card reader. Your card shares an encrypted code using near-field communication (NFC) technology with the contactless card reader and the payment is immediately sent for authorization.
Is the tap to pay feature secure?
Yes! Tap to pay utilizes the latest security features. When utilizing the tap to pay feature, your encrypted card information is sent using near-field communication (NFC) technology between the card and the contactless reader on the terminal.
How do I use the contactless card?
Look - Check for the Contactless Symbol Image on the store’s checkout terminal.
Tap - When prompted for payment, bring your card within a few inches of the Contactless Symbol on the checkout terminal. Depending on the terminal, you may tap on, above, or below the screen.
Go - Your payment is securely processed in seconds. Once your payment is confirmed, you’re good to go!
Can I still use my chip or swipe to pay options?
Yes! You can still use the swipe or insert option with your new card if you prefer to make your purchases that way! You can also still utilize the swipe or insert option to complete transactions with merchants or ATMs who do offer contactless payment. We’ve simply added tap to pay as a new, easier, and more secure way to pay!
Will my new card have a new card number?
If you have a Generations Bank Business Debit Card, your card number will remain the same.
If you have a Generations Bank Personal Debit Card, you will receive a new card number.
What should I do when I receive my new card?
When you receive your new card in the mail, you will need to call the debit card activation line printed on the sticker attached to your card to activate your card. Once it is activated, you will need to update your card number with merchants, add it to your digital wallet, and add it to your Generations Bank mobile app card controls. Once your new card is activated, destroy your old card immediately.
How do I activate my new card?
Call the debit card activation line printed on the sticker on the front of your card or call our toll-free number 844-661-0056 and select Option 2.
Will I need to create a new PIN?
If you have a Generations Bank Business Debit Card, your PIN will remain the same.
If you have a Generations Bank Personal Debit Card, you will be prompted to set up a new PIN when you activate your card.
Can I continue to use my current card until the new card arrives?
Yes, you can continue to use your current card until the new card arrives. Once you activate your new card, your old card will automatically deactivate. If you have not activated your new card 30 days after receiving it, your old card will automatically deactivate.
Should I update my card information anywhere I’ve saved it, including recurring payments?
Yes, you will want to contact each merchant to provide them with the new card details as soon as your new card is activated.
What if the old card is registered to a digital wallet, such as Apple Pay, Google Pay, Samsung Pay, CashApp, or PayPal?
Your old card will be deactivated once you activate your new card. You will want to register your new card in your digital wallet as soon as your new card is activated.
What if I was expecting a refund from my old card number?
Any refunds expected on your old card number will still be processed if the merchant sends the refund to your old card number by March 1, 2025.
Are there any changes to limits or terms?
All limits and terms remain unchanged.
Are there any additional fees to use the tap to pay card?
No, there are no additional fees to use your new tap to pay card.
What’s the difference between this card compared to my old one?
Your new Generations Bank debit card features a new modern design and tap to pay!
A member of my family got their new card, but I haven’t received mine. When can I expect to receive mine?
Cards are being mailed based on expiration dates. If you would like to know if your new card has been issued, please call our customer service team toll-free at 844-661-0056 or stop by your local branch.
Can I opt out of getting a new card?
No, all Generations Bank debit cards will be undergoing this process.
How do I upload this new card to my card controls?
Once you are logged in to your mobile app, select Wallet, then Card Controls. Select Add and select your new card from the Eligible Cards list.
